Stargate IV - Basil Indigo Project

Stargate IV is a piece that is a part of my mixed media Basil Indigo series.

It was started as a watercolor and gouache painting cold-pressed watercolor paper and then expanded to included construction paper!  In the end, many mediums were used, including oil pastel, alcohol marker, colored pencil and gel pen.

The series was created as a part of my portfolio for grad school.  (Happy to say I got accepted to a few amazing colleges!).

Basil Indigo is a character that I created back in 2013 when I was spending the summer in the Philippines.  She came about when I was doing some sketches of some hang-gliders that I saw on 

a videoke.  (You absolutely CAN'T have a Filipino party without videoke!)  I wanted to create a character who would build and test flying machines and other inventions like these hang-gliders would, so Basil was born!  I went for a very cliched Steampunk style with pinstripe pants and a leather corset.  Goggles were and are still a must in her current adventure garb.  I will post my first drawing of her when I find a way to upload it from my aunty's old Gen 2 iPad.hehe
